Solo service providers: should you invest in a personal brand photographer?

I’ll set the scene: it’s just you, yourself and you operating in your day-to-day business.

You’ve set a logo as your profile picture across your social channels. There’s not a single photo of you on your website. Your fear of being seen reigns supreme!

I’ve been there, I operated behind a Red Dot for the first two years of going freelance. I still got clients and I was glad I didn’t have to put my face out there.

But here’s the thing – although I still worked with many lovely people during that time, there was a disconnect between me and my audience. Some clients actually thought I had a team behind me, and this led to confusion. I also attracted clients who liked my design work, but personally we didn’t quite gel.

People buy from people, so while you still need a logo for all your other business bits and bobs, if you’re a solo service provider it’s worth getting that mug out there too 🤩 ☕️

While I think any photo is better than no photo, it’s better to book a professional photographer than getting your partner/friend to snap a photo on their phone. It just proves you’re someone who sees investing in themselves and their business seriously. That’s just my opinion though – I’ve noticed people who invest in others tend to be doing better in their own biz.
