Signs your brand looks unprofessional

A wee list of things to consider 💭

Don’t worry if you resonate with some of these – sometimes developing a strong brand takes time, and you shouldn’t beat yourself up for not ticking every box.

Lack of consistency

Your:

  • Colours

  • Fonts

  • Iconography

  • Illustrations

And general vibe should match across all of your marketing collateral. When things don’t match, you’re failing to become recognisable in the marketplace. Recognisability promotes trust, and trust is why your potential customers end up buying from you.

No strategy was involved in the design process

You’ve paid £20 for a logo from someone straight out of uni and while it looks kind-of-alright, because you didn’t do the background work / hire a professional to develop a strong strategic foundation for your brand – it:

  • Doesn’t relate to your target audience

  • Doesn’t communicate your values

  • Isn’t truly representative of your product/service

  • Lacks personality

  • Has a distinctly “off” vibe because you’re not entirely sure who you’re speaking to

No online presence

What’s the first thing you do when engaging with a business for the first time? My guess would be you either google them, or search for them on social media. An out-of-date website and a social page you barely update is, therefore, not a good sign that you’re on top of other things in your biz.

No professional photography.

People will fight me on this one (I see you with your well-lit selfies) but investing in a pro photographer shows you’re serious about how you show up and present yourself in the world of biz. People who take these little things seriously will take the work they do for you seriously too.
